Pole Vault Summit, Reno NV, USA, 16 January 2015

Steve Lewis finished third with 5.65m behind Olympic pole vault champion Renaud Lavillenie who set a world lead and meeting record of 5.92m.

Northern Athletics U17/U20/Senior Championships, Sheffield, UK, 17/18 January 2015

GB&NI stars Adam Hague, Katarina Johnson-Thompson and Thomas Somers all claimed victories at the Northern Championships.

Hague set a new UK all-time U20 record at just 17 years of age, winning the junior competition with 5.51m. He was unsuccessful in his attempts at 5.55m the following day on route to claiming the senior crown with a vault of 5.45m.

Johnson-Thompson opened up her season with 8.40 in the 60m hurdles and 6.63m in the long jump to take the senior women titles in both events.

York athlete Somers looked very impressive as he took the U20 60m and 200m double with 6.84 and 21.29.

Sheffield’s Kristie Edwards and Trafford’s Louise Bloor also claimed the 60m and 200m in the U20 women’s and senior women’s races. Edwards took the U20W titles with 7.53 and 24.11 whilst Bloor recorded 7.48 and 23.76 for the senior 60m and 200m.

South of England AA U20 & Senior Championships, London, UK, 17/18 January 2015

Shannon and Cheriece Hylton stole the show with the sisters taking a 1-2 double in both the U20 women’s 60m and 200m. Shannon got the better of her sister Cheriece in both events with 7.46 and 23.98 whilst her twin recorded times of 7.60 and 24.36.

Serita Solomon doubled up in the senior women’s 60m and 60m hurdles, winning both competitions with 7.50 and 8.18 respectively.

Cardiff Cross Challenge, Cardiff, UK, 18 January 2015

Pre-event favourites Lily Partidge and Adam Hickey claimed victories in the senior races. Aldershot athlete Partidge won the 6.9km women’s race by 13 seconds ahead of training partner Sarah Astin in 25:57. Southend’s Hickey claimed a 10 second victory over Dean Lacy, winning the 10.3km men’s race in 33:36.
