British Athletics have today confirmed that Charlie Da’Vall Grice (club: Brighton Phoenix; coach: Jon Bigg) has withdrawn from next week’s European Indoor Championships with Sam Atkin (Lincoln Wellington; Rob Lewis) set to replace him.

Grice has recently been setback with a foot injury yet still claimed silver in the 3000m at the SPAR British Athletics Indoor Championships to confirm his spot in Glasgow and ran an indoor 1500m personal best of 3:39.04 at the Müller Indoor Grand Prix Birmingham at the weekend.

However Grice has chosen to withdraw from the European Indoor Championships because of the injury and will be replaced by Atkin, who ran inside the 3000m qualification standard in New York in January before finishing fourth at the trials in Birmingham.

Atkin will make his maiden senior international appearance for Great Britain & Northern Ireland in Glasgow, taking the overall number of debutants selected onto the team to 11.
